Do your brakes squeak or squeal when stopping or slowing down?

Your braking system is one of the most important safety related features of your vehicle. A mushy pedal, squealing and grinding sounds are signs of potential brake failure.

Here at Mr. Tire and Wheel we will inspect your brake components to ensure your safety and your family's safety.

Below are some symptoms of brakes that may be in need of repair

  •  Brake Pedal Goes Too Far Down to Stop. When you step on the brake pedal and it feels like it's going too far down before you start to slow down , you could  have the following problems:

    • Low Brake Fluid Level: Make sure your brake fluid is full. If it's low, top it off to the mark on the side of the reservoir. You can pick up brake at advance auto parts or even auto zone for a low price if the brake fluid was low could be a sign or a leaking in the system stop in and we will look at the system for you free of charge.
    •
    • Contaminated Brake Fluid: Even though your brakes operate in a closed system, contaminants can still work there way into your brake system. Air can enter the system through the smallest hole, and you can end up with water in the system from condensation and other means. There's not really anyway to check for this, but bleeding your brakes will remove the bad brake fluid and we will repalce it with new fluid it is called "Flushing the system."
    •
    • Worn Brake Pads: Your brakes should never wear low enough to cause your brake pedal to feel low. They'll start to make noise, alot of time it will start to sound like a scrubbing noise almost like metal on metal . But if they do get very low you need to get your brakes check out as soon as can . The longer you wait, the more damange you can cause, like having a caliber lock up or you will have the replace the rotors do to metal to metal meening there was no pad on the brake itself .
    •
    • Bad Brake Power Boost/Master cyclinder Finally, if your brake booster goes bad you'll have a very hard brake pedal. Newer cars have a brake booster which are vacuum controlled. It is a special vacuum measurement device that connects to the brake booster it is needed to check it. If it's bad, you'll have to replace the boost unit. iI the master cyclinder is bad, you will have a soft pedel or as your foot is resting on the brake pedel is will slowly go down or when you hit the brakes if will go straight to the floor and you will not be able to stop. This is not hard to replace once the master cyclinder has been replaced you will need to bleed the brake system and make sure you have no air in the system .
    •
    • Brake Line Obstruction: It's possible for something to block brake fluid from reaching a portion of the system. This could be something in the line like a chunk of rust, or it could be a pinched brake line. This is something the trained eye can look for like a pinch in a brake line or even some rust could be a line .
    •
    • Pedal Vibration. If you step on the pedal and feel a vibration, you're in for some troubleshooting. There are lots of things which can cause the pedal to vibrate when you apply the brakes. Rememeber, if your car is equipped with ABS (most are these days), the pedal will seem to vibrate when you brake very, very hard. The system does this to keep them from locking up. This is normal. Otherwise, check these causes:
    •
      • Bad Wheel Cylinder - Parking Brake Fails to Release - Rotors are not true and need replaced or need to be turned - Brake drums are out of round and need to be turned as well .
